ANNOUNCEMENTS
Information for the Final Presentation
The final presentation will take place on May 18th at 6:00 pm. The venue for the final presentation will be our regular classroom (A415 Aulas II).
It is important to exercise the following protocol for the presentation.
- Dress code: Please dress formally as we will have guest critics for the final presentation. No T-shirts, jeans, or open shoes.
- Be on time: All students are required to arrive on time at the presentation. Your work should be completely finished and ready to mount. Late arrivals will not be accepted and will not be allowed to present.
- Be Prepared: Rehearse your presentation before you arrive as much as possible so you can be confident during the review.
The requirements for the presentation boards are as follows:
- 4 sheets, 90 x 60 cm (36” x 24” inches)
- CD containing the full resolution JPEG and/or PDF images of the boards. The resolution should be at least 150 dpi (5400 x 3600 pixels) for each board.
- Please include the 3D model of your project in the CD
- The sheets should be mounted on foamboard.
- The format of each board should be horizontal (landscape). Only horizontal boards will be accepted.
- The boards should contain the following drawings and images (at a minimum):
- Site plan with suggested urban context
- Building plans
- Elevations (4)
- Sections (2)
- Constructions details (2 at least)
- Exterior renderings (4)
- Interior renderings (2)
- Please use a large scale to present the most amount of detail in your drawings.
- The scale should be consistent across all boards.
Following are some tips about the design of the boards:
- The renderings should be large enough to be viewed from a distance, they should be the most important and visible aspect of your presentation.
- Graphic design is very important; you should allow enough time to create a compelling design for your boards.
- All building and site plans should have north pointing towards the top of the board (12:00 pm position). This will help maintain legibility across different presentations.
- DON’T USE BACKGROUND IMAGES, they only distract the viewer.
- Be coherent and consistent, look at the hierarchy in your boards. Ask yourself the following questions:
- If I was unfamiliar with the project, would I understand my design proposal?
- Can my boards be understood from a distance (3m)?
- Are there any important items I want to communicate that are unclear?
- What is the most important item in my presentation? Does that item have the most visible or prominent position on my boards?
- Do I have any items or graphics that are unnecessary or of minor importance? What happens if I remove them from the boards; is it better or worse?
- Look for quality instead of gimmicks.
- Use good drafting standards in your presentation, be aware of:
- Line thickness: follow the same rules as if you were doing hand or Autocad drawings. In elevations, there should be different line thicknesses to show which elements are in front and which elements recede to the background. In plans, the main structural elements should have the heaviest thickness, followed by secondary divisions such as drywall and glass partitions.
- In section or elevation views, use hatches to show the cutaway of the land and building elements. There should be a heavy line or a hatch to show all the elements that are being cut by the section.
